Who qualifies as a Critical Key Worker?

Critical key workers are deemed as essential to ensure lifeline health care and community services can be delivered. Emergency childcare will be provided during school and nursery closures for these essential workers who have exhausted all other childcare options.

Various categories of key worker roles have been identified:

Dumfries and Galloway Council facilities

Across the region, the uptake of places at our Childcare Hubs in Council facilities has increased allowing more of our key workers to go to work in support of our communities.  To allow us to plan for demand, we have a booking system in place for each of our school hubs and would ask that parents looking for childcare book in advance each week.  It would be helpful if bookings are made by Thursday lunchtime to ensure that the appropriate numbers of staff are in place to provide safe and appropriate care for your child.

It may be that parents first choice of hub is not able to take additional children and we would therefore offer places at a local alternative; this may occur particularly within Dumfries where there is the greatest demand.

Book your child's place by contacting the relevant number within the list of facilities:

If your child has attended a different hub previously, we will ask you to register again at the new hub to ensure that we have the correct contact and medical information available on site.

If you no longer require a place that you have booked at one of our childcare hubs, please contact the hub directly to cancel your booking. This will ensure we can offer the place to another child/family.

Meals will be provided for all children aged 2 years or older but children aged up to 2 years old will need to bring meals / snacks / bottles. Parents and Carers will need to ensure children from 0 to 5 bring a range of provisions to the school nursery:

Private childcare providers and childminders

You can still continue to use any Care Inspectorate registered childminder or childcare provider if you choose.

A number of local childcare providers and childminders are offering childcare with provision for different age groups. You can register with these providers if you meet the key worker criteria and they have a space.
