Support for local businesses

We're doing everything we can to help local businesses of all sizes during this crisis.

We recognise that these are extremely challenging times for many local businesses and we want to assure industries of all sizes that, along with our partners, we will do everything we can to help during this unprecedented public health crisis.

We know our support to you is critical and we are working with other local and national organisations including the new South of Scotland Enterprise agency to prepare guidance, advice and tailor our support.

Our message to you at this moment is to please continue to get in touch as soon as possible so that we can help and support you through this difficult time - we need to know what you require.

Be Scam Aware - Businesses are particularly vulnerable to scams during this difficult period. Common scams to watch out for include emails and phone calls from people claiming to be from HMRC. The guidance published from HMRC here gives advice on what to look for and how to report a scam. Do not give your bank account details to anyone unless you are certain of who they are.  We have also been made aware of emails containing realistic looking information from the UK Government about grants.  Do not follow the links in the email and do not provide your bank details as requested.  If you are suspicious of a scam please let us know by contacting tradingstandards@dumgal.gov.uk.

We have received reports that businesses are being contacted by people claiming to be from the Council's Rates or Business Gateway teams requesting bank details for the payment of grants. The Council will never ask you to supply bank details over the phone. If you are in any doubt please hang up and contact the business support team using the contact details below.
